A small village with ample street and travel photo opportunities and a large lake to accompany the mountain backdrops.
DAY 6: KARAKUL TO MURGHAB VIA RANGKUL
An early start leads us off the Pamir Highway onto a side road which leads us to mountain landscapes that might remind of Patagonia in South America. With ample stops along the way and a constantly changing landscape, you won't find much time put your camera away. The evening is spent in the larger town of Murghab, situated on the Pamir Highway with fairly good facilities. This will be our base for the next 2 nights.
DAY 7: MURGHAB TO MURGHAB VIA THE PSHART VALLEY
Today we hike! Our drivers will take us up the Pshart Valley from where we are dropped off and we hike over a pass (4700m) and where they will meet us on the other end around 6-7 hours later. From beautiful shepherd shelters to snow-capped passes, this hike will push you, but will reward you equally!
This hike is optional. If you chose to stay in Murghab you are free to explore the town and market and indulge in some street and market photography. Murghab is a vivid, rather dusty town which always makes for great light rays and street scenes.
DAY 8: MURGHAB TO JARTY GUMBEZ
Again we leave the Pamir Highway for an alternate route. Early on we stop at a large meteor crater before we follow the road towards Shaimak Village and then cross over to a tiny village called Jarty Gumbez. Known for its thermal pools.
