Imagine seeing and photographing jaguars in the wild! On small but powerful boats, we cruise scenic serpentine rivers in search of the elusive wild jaguar. You are guaranteed multiple sightings and amazing photography because they come down to the river to hunt caiman and capybara. We also photograph five different species of kingfishers diving for fish. Black-collared hawks also compete for fish, and their impressive wingspans are exceptionally beautiful. Behind one of the lodges we use, there is a three-story spiral staircase parallel with a Jabiru stork nest, and this gives you an eye-level vantage to photograph this huge bird. In a nearby tree (within telephoto range of the top of the stairs) is a nesting pair of blue hyacinth macaws. The Pantanal region of Brazil is a nature and wildlife photographer's paradise.
This photo tour begins and ends in Cuiaba, Brazil. Temperatures are pleasant to warm, and I bring a tour to the Pantanal at this time because there are far fewer boats on the river competing for shooting positions. In addition, early November is on the cusp of the rainy season which means most days will be cloudy. Diffused light is much better for photographing wildlife than harsh, mid-day sunlight. The chance of rain is small, and the benefits of this season put the odds of great photography in your favor.
